E911 Service Limitations & Disclosure Notice
Effective Date: July 24, 2026
This E911 Service Limitations and Disclosure Notice explains important limitations associated with Enhanced 911 (“E911”) services provided through VoIP and internet-based telephone services offered or supported by 1820 Services.
Understanding E911 Service
E911 service allows emergency operators to receive your telephone number and registered service address when you place a 911 call using a supported VoIP service.
Unlike traditional telephone services, E911 functionality depends on internet connectivity, electrical power, and proper service configuration.
Registered Address Requirement
Customers are responsible for providing and maintaining an accurate physical service address for all VoIP phone services.
Emergency responders may be dispatched to the registered address associated with the phone number used to place the call.
Failure to maintain a current address may delay or prevent emergency assistance.
Power and Internet Dependency
VoIP-based E911 service requires electrical power and an active internet connection.
During power outages, internet outages, network failures, equipment malfunctions, or service interruptions, E911 service may be unavailable or may not function properly.
Service Relocation
If a VoIP device is moved to a different physical location without updating the registered service address, emergency responders may be directed to the previously registered location instead of the caller’s current location.
Customers must notify 1820 Services before relocating VoIP equipment to ensure E911 information remains accurate.
Wireless and Remote Users
Users operating VoIP services from remote locations, mobile devices, softphones, or temporary work locations should understand that location information provided to emergency services may not automatically reflect their current location.
Emergency Service Limitations
Under certain circumstances, emergency personnel may not automatically receive:
- The caller’s exact physical location
- Suite, office, or unit numbers unless properly registered
- Updated location information after a device relocation
- Location details for remote or mobile users
Customer Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for:
- Maintaining accurate service address information
- Keeping equipment connected and operational
- Ensuring adequate internet connectivity
- Informing all users of these E911 limitations
- Notifying 1820 Services of address changes
Testing and Verification
Customers should contact 1820 Services before attempting any test calls to emergency services. Unauthorized test calls to 911 should never be made.
Limitation of Liability
1820 Services shall not be liable for any inability to access emergency services or for delays caused by power outages, internet failures, customer-provided equipment, inaccurate address information, network congestion, acts of third parties, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Acknowledgment
By using VoIP services provided or supported by 1820 Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and accept the limitations of E911 service described in this notice.
